U3A Gardening Interest Group visit to Parliament House and Gardens

  Parliament House 1901

The GIG group enjoyed a great day in Melbourne on Tuesday 4th April, undertaking a public tour of Parliament House and Gardens.

Matt Burns, Electorate Officer organised the tour for the group.  Matt is part of Julianna Addison's team who is Member for Wendouree.

Our tour guides at Parliament were James and Baron.  The tour led by James was very thorough, with his knowledge sharing allowing for a very entertaining and enjoyable tour.

Please find attached the link to Parliament House to give you the history and information of the day to day workings of Parliament.

Members annexe today:

The members annexe was completed in 2018.  It was designed by Peter Elliott Architecture and Urban Design.

As the original design of Parliament House was never finished, the main building did not have any official offices for members. By 1972 Parliament House was fit to burst, and temporary office structures were built out the back, referred to as the 'chook house'. The annexe provides a permanent solution.  Find further information on the website.

Many thanks to Rick Holt for the organisation of the day.  Well done Rick!
